Our Story

Some stories begin with ambition.

Ours began with responsibility.

A grocery store.
A butcher counter.
A family willing to work.

In 1972, Gerald took a leap of faith on a business called Jake’s Steaks.

What followed was never a master plan for expansion.

It was something simpler.

Listen closely.
Work hard.
Take care of people.
Repeat.

One store became many ventures.
Not because growth was the goal—
but because service was.

A better market.
A better deli.
A place to gather.
A place to shop.
A place to solve everyday problems.

Over time, G&E came to mean more than a name.

More than Gerald & Emily.

It became shorthand for a promise.

That quality matters.
That neighbors matter.
That local still matters.
That community is something you participate in.

Even now, more than five decades later, that spirit remains.

Still curious.
Still involved.
Still asking how to improve the milkshakes.

Still showing up.
